Sweet 16 football poll: Chambers, West Charlotte rise after Week 3
There’s a good bit of shuffling in the region’s oldest high school football poll this week.

Yes, No. 1 Hough and No. 2 Providence maintain their spots in The Observer’s Sweet 16 poll, following Hough’s dominant 30-3 win over the Chargers on Friday.
But after those two, there is lots of action.
The Sweet 16, which began in 1984, ranks the top teams in the Charlotte Observer’s coverage area, which currently includes teams in Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union counties.
The Sweet 16 champion at the end of the year receives a large banner to hang in the school’s gym.
Now, about that movement:
— Chambers, off a 3-0 start, jumped from No. 7 to No. 4, following a blowout win over N.C. 2A power Corvian.

— West Charlotte jumped five spots to No. 10. The Lions upset S.C. 5A power, Summerville on the road Friday, winning 20-19.
— Unbeaten AL Brown climbed three spots to No. 13 after beating regional power Mooresville on Friday.
— And there are two new teams in the poll — 2-1 Ashbrook, from Gaston County, in at No. 14, and Union County power Marvin Ridge. The 3-0 Mavericks join the poll at No. 15.
