911 call at 4 am leads to a homicide on West Trade Street in uptown, CMPD says
Charlotte’s second homicide of the Memorial Day weekend occurred on West Trade Street in uptown, near Johnson & Wales University, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The identity of the man and details of a suspect have not been released.
“On Sunday … shortly before 4 a.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service at the 700 block of W. Trade Street,” CMPD said in a Sept. 6 news release.
“Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim with apparent gunshot wound. Medic pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.”
The 700 block borders Johnson & Wales University and includes the Gateway Apartments and Greater Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church, maps show.
The shooting was the second homicide of the three-day holiday weekend, police said.

On Saturday, a body was found around 3 a.m. in the 1900 block of Mereview Court in south Charlotte, CMPD said.
Elliot Rukwan Butler, 31, died at the scene from a gunshot wound, police said.
Mereview Court is in an apartment community near the intersection of Sharon Lakes Road and Sharon Road West, maps show.
Details of a suspect in the case have not been released.
