Bus driver killed in multi-vehicle crash caused by debris on road, NC police say
A deadly chain-reaction crash was set off when a vehicle’s unsecured load fell onto a busy highway during rush hour, according to investigators in North Carolina.

It happened around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 52 in Albemarle, and ended with a bus driver killed, Albemarle police said in a news release.
“A Stanly County Public Transportation Bus and a Ford pickup were traveling northbound when a southbound Jeep struck an object in the road, causing the driver to lose control and enter the northbound lanes, colliding head on with the bus,” police said.
“The pickup then struck the rear of the bus. The driver of the bus, Stella Redfearn Dase, 60, of Albemarle, was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the Jeep sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital.”

An investigation linked the “object” obstructing traffic to a vehicle driven by Dustin Kendall, 37, of New London, police said. He has been charged with failure to secure a load and having expired vehicle registration, police said.
The crash happened on a commercial strip near the intersection of Salisbury Avenue and U.S. 52, officials said.
