A well-known spot for plant-based burgers is closing in Charlotte. What we know

Big changes are in store for Charlotte’s Romeo’s Vegan Burgers on South Boulevard, which “will no longer be here at this location after the next few months,” owners said Wednesday.

Co-owners Lamont Heath and Monty “Tigo B.” Faulkner announced the moves in a video shared via Instagram, noting that they have appreciated the customers who have shown up for them.

“We’ve been dealing with a headache here, and you know the lease is up, and it’s time for us to take our talents elsewhere,” Faulkner said in the video. “We won’t be here at South Boulevard by November. So you guys go ahead and come on down.”

Heath added, “We would love for things to have worked out here, but we have dealt with a lot. We’re not going to make anybody look bad or talk down on no one in public. But you know, we have went through a lot of ups and downs these last five years, and, honestly, we’re just not willing to do it for another five years, 10 years. So you know, it’s time for us to move on to new things.”

The post accompanying the video reassured fans that more is in store for the team, however.

“But make no mistake, this is NOT the end of Romeo’s Vegan Burgers in Charlotte. This is simply a transition into something new,” the message read, noting an announcement would be made in the next few weeks. “Charlotte has been a huge part of our journey, and we’re not done with you yet.”

Romeo’s got its start as a popular food truck in 2020, and quickly made plans for the brick-and-mortar location, which opened in late 2021. The restaurant later expanded to Greensboro and Asheville, although the Asheville location has since closed.

Faulkner told CharlotteFive late Wednesday that the food truck is “still rolling,” making regional stops in places including Raleigh and Columbia, SC.

“It’s a brand that many people know, especially if they’re into veganism. You know, it’s almost a nationwide thing,” he said.

“The game plan is to remain in Charlotte and find just another place where we can facilitate that, but there most likely will be some downtime between when we get out of this lease and when we’re moving into a new location. So that’s why we’re just encouraging our patrons and anybody that wants to try Romeo’s just to go ahead and come on now because like we don’t know how long it could be,” he said.
