Charlotte airport expects busy Labor Day weekend. Here’s what flyers should know
Charlotte Douglas International Airport is readying for a busy end-of-summer rush with the upcoming Labor Day weekend. But it may not be as busy as it was last year.

The upcoming weekend marks the end of summer season. Charlotte airport is expected to serve 920,000 flyers between Wednesday and Tuesday, Sept. 8. Around 220,000 passengers are expected to pass through TSA checkpoints over that period, down from around 226,000 passengers last year.
According to officials, local travelers will account for 36% of total passenger traffic. The remaining travelers will be passengers connecting through Charlotte’s airport to other destinations.
Airport officials said more than 4,400 departing flights are scheduled over the Labor Day travel period. The busiest days are expected to be Thursday, Friday and Labor Day on Monday.

At the onset of summer season the airport similarly saw a decline in its passenger forecast amid rising energy prices. The dip in passenger activity comes after record-breaking years in 2024 and 2025.
Despite this, Charlotte’s airport continues to be among the busiest airports in North America and globally for passenger traffic.
Travelers are encouraged to reserve parking in advance and arrive at their parking location at least 30 minutes before they plan to reach the terminal.
