Man wanted by ICE found in stolen pickup, tailgating a squad car, NC sheriff says
A man wanted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was located under odd circumstances, when he began tailgating a squad car in a stolen pickup, according to investigators in eastern North Carolina.

It happened around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday in Currituck County, and concluded in an armed confrontation at a gas station.
“A deputy observed a truck pull out of a gas station and begin following his patrol vehicle at an unsafe distance. The deputy increased the distance between the vehicles and turned into a parking lot, where the truck followed him,” the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office said in a Sept 25 news release.
“When the deputy exited his patrol vehicle, the suspect moved behind his truck, using the vehicle as a shield while reaching into his pockets. The deputy drew his service weapon and ordered the suspect to show his hands. The suspect refused to comply and continued moving toward the tailgate of the truck.”
The standoff ended after another deputy arrived to assist in an arrest. The suspect later resisted “and was subsequently tased,” the sheriff’s office said.

A knife was found where the driver was standing, along with “another tool that appeared to have been modified for use as a weapon,” the sheriff’s office said.
An investigation revealed the Ford F-150 involved in the incident had been stolen on Sept. 23 in Dare County, the sheriff’s office said.
The 31-year-old man was arrested and is being held without bond due to an ICE detainer for deportation, officials said. He is charged with:
