High school football update: Thursday’s NC high school live scores
It’s Week 2 of the high school football season and nearly every team in the immediate Charlotte-area is scheduled to play this weekend.

Here are the key games, a full schedule and a live scoreboard to track teams all night long. Scroll down for the scoreboards.
Harding (0-1) at Garinger (1-0), Fri, 7 p.m.: Harding has won the last six meetings by an average score of 47-3. Garinger, which opened the season with a win at Winston-Salem Prep last week, last beat Harding in 2018, 41-20. The Wildcats haven’t been 2-0 since 1984. Students with a school ID will get free admission.
Olympic (0-1) at Palisades (1-0), Fri, 7 p.m.: Palisades lost head coach Jonathan Simmons just hours before a come-from-behind 42-28 win over Ashbrook last week. Interim coach Darrel Wilson found out he was in the head job just three hours before kickoff. Now he’s had a full week to prepare for Palisades’ big rival, a team they call “LIttle O.” Olympic tries to bounce back from a season-opening loss to Butler.
Monroe (1-0) at West Charlotte (0-1), Fri, 7 p.m.: Both teams are recent state champions and both expect to be good this season. Monroe beat Hoke County, 28-6, last week and West Charlotte was shut out, 24-0, by two-time state champion Greensboro Grimsley. The Lions hope to give new coach DJ McFadden his first win at West Charlotte Friday night at home.
Ambassador Christian (1-0) vs. Grapevine Faith, TX (0-1), Fri, 3 p.m.: Ambassador, which kicked off its second season of varsity football last week, will play in the Global Ireland Football Tournament, in the 6,000-seat Energia Park in Dublin. The two-day event includes a college game on Saturday between TCU and North Carolina at the Aviva Stadium.
Butler (1-0) at Statesville (1-0), Fri, 7 p.m.: Butler gave new coach Donald Littlejohn a win in his head coaching debut, beating Olympic 27-14. Senior QB Niko Henderson threw for 212 yards and 4 scores. Butler played without star RB Damourion Thomas-Wright (hamstring). Statesville started the season with a 36-22 win over East Surry.
Chambers (1-0) at Hopewell (1-0), Fri, 7 p.m.: Hopewell routed East Mecklenburg, 43-20, last week, but now steps up in competition. Chambers beat Gray Collegiate (SC), 50-21, last week behind QB Jamouri Nichols, who had 320 yards total offense and 4 touchdowns.

East Lincoln (1-0) at Providence (1-0), Fri, 7 p.m.: Providence rallied to beat Hickory Ridge, 24-21, in the debut of new coach Perry Osbey last week. The Panthers will need to be better at home to handle a Lincoln County powerhouse in East Lincoln. East Lincoln features Georgia commit Jaxon Dollar, the state’s top recruit, and beat Providence, 55-24, at home last season.
Rolesville (0-1) at Providence Day (1-0), Fri, 7 p.m.: Two of the top 10 teams in the state meet in this matchup. Rolesville is coming off a 45-25 loss at home to Mallard Creek, who’s ranked No. 4 in the state this week. Providence Day, coming off a blowout win over Myers Park last week, is No. 2 statewide but can’t look ahead to the following week’s showdown with No. 1 Hough.
Hough (1-0) vs. Cardinal Gibbons (1-0) at Bank of America Stadium, Sat, 8 p.m.: Gibbons is No. 11 in the Super 25 statewide rankings and comes off a 45-6 win over Greensboro Dudley Friday, sparked by sophomore tailback Truth Caesar, who ran for 111 yards and 3 touchdowns on just 7 carries. Hough comes in off a tough, 15-10, win over SC state champ Rock Hill Northwestern. The Huskies are ranked as high as No. 17 in the national polls this week.
For the first time, girls’ flag is a sanctioned sport in North Carolina with a state championship. Practice begins Monday, with the first games on Sept. 9. The playoffs will begin Oct. 31 with the state finals on Nov. 14. There will be six rounds of playoff games with two rounds being played on Oct. 31 and two rounds on Nov. 7.
