A fire and road work closed Interstate 85 lanes in Charlotte on Saturday, according to NCDOT and media reports.

Maintenance work shut the northbound lanes near West Sugar Creek Road around 9 a.m., NCDOT officials said on social media site X. Lanes were reported open by about noon, although work will continue until 5 p.m., officials said.
An emergency bridge inspection was to blame, WCNC reported.
Just before 11 a.m., Charlotte Fire crews doused a vehicle fire on I-85 South near Interstate 485 that had lanes backed up, according to the station.

Police and fire officials reported no injuries in the fire.
At noon, traffic remained at a crawl in the northbound lanes, NCDOT cameras showed.
