Charlotte Mecklenburg Library announces hire of new chief executive officer
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library tapped a familiar face as its next top leader.
The library’s Board of Trustees has hired Angie Myers, who’s led the system on an interim basis for more than a year, as CEO, according to a Monday announcement. Myers has been with Charlotte Mecklenburg Library since 2013 and previously served as finance director and chief finance and administration officer.

Myers said she was “deeply honored” by the move, calling the library her “professional home for more than a decade.”
“I believe wholeheartedly in the power of libraries to transform lives, strengthen communities and create opportunity for everyone,” she said in a statement.
Library board Chair Amy Hawn Nelson said the hire was a unanimous decision.
“We need someone who has the experience and expertise to successfully lead the organization through ever-changing economic, social and political landscapes while still meeting the needs of our growing community,” Hawn Nelson said in a statement. “Angie is that person.”
The library launched a nationwide search for a new CEO in May 2025 following the departure of Marcellus “MT” Turner, who stepped down after about four years in the post due to “family reasons.” The library paid the recruiting firm Coleman Lew Canny Bowen $55,000 to lead the search, the Observer reported previously.

Myers officially takes over at an eventful time for the library. The library system launched a rebranding in the spring, and construction is underway on a new Main Library in uptown slated to open in 2027.
In its statement announcing the hire, the library praised Myers for her work while serving as interim CEO, including supporting the Main Library project and the implementation of a three-year strategic plan.
“I look forward to working alongside our talented staff, dedicated Board and community partners as we continue building and shaping the Library’s future together,” Myers said.
Myers is a certified public accountant and graduate of James Madison University and Queens University’s McColl School of Business. Before joining the library, she worked as a division director in Mecklenburg County’s Financial Services Department and in the private sector for companies including Wells Fargo, Lowe’s and Marriott International.
