Charlotte man, who opened fire on I-485 after manslaughter conviction, sentenced
Bullets whizzed through the lanes of Interstate 485 and into cars driving down the busy highway that loops around Charlotte and its suburbs. The man who shot them will spend the next 10 years in prison, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.

Anil Dabydeen, 41, had been convicted of felony first-degree manslaughter in New York and was not allowed to have a gun when he shot a stolen gun at passing cars on Jan. 8, 2025, The Charlotte Observer previously reported.
When Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers tried to stop the Charlotte man, he drove at up to 100 mph until he was stumped by a dead-end and “eventually gave up,” police reports say.

Dabydeen, who shot two people, must serve three years on supervised release after his 10-year-sentence is up, the judge ruled U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.
