The county Board of Commissioners will present Travis with a lifetime achievement award during the Randy Travis Music Festival in downtown Marshville. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Travis will be honored at 6:40 p.m., according to a county news release

Born in Marshville and raised in Union County, Travis became one of country music’s most influential artists. He won seven Grammy Awards and five Country Music Association Awards, has 23 No. 1 singles and has sold more than 25 million records.

Travis, 67, lives in Nashville. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.

On Sept. 4, Travis announced that his album “Same Old Way” will be released Nov. 13.

“This is the first album of completely new material that Randy has released in over 18 years, full of tracks that span Randy’s distinguished recording career from 1986 to 2013!” according to the announcement on Travis’s social media channels.

“Following his 2013 stroke, fans and music industry insiders alike weren’t sure that a project like this would ever be possible again, but Randy continues to make history, and this album is living proof of that,” Travis said in the announcement.

Friday’s Union County announcement said commissioners “will recognize Travis for his extraordinary career, lasting contributions to country music and the pride his accomplishments have brought to his hometown and Union County.”
