Busy Lake Norman road to close temporarily for $25.6 million improvement project
Part of Knox Road in Cornelius is scheduled to close temporarily for a $25.6 million project to fix chronically backed up Lake Norman intersections, town officials said Friday.

“Residents of Blue Stone Harbor will need to use the northeast neighborhood entrance and exit,” according to a town announcement. The town recommends using Knox Road and Torrence Chapel Road as an alternate route.
Also, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8, NCDOT will begin modifying the traffic signal at One Norman Boulevard and West Catawba Avenue, according to the town. The work will be nights only, officials said.

The work is part of a six-phase project to fix the intersections of One Norman Boulevard and Knox Road, Torrence Chapel Road and Knox Road, Chartwell Center Drive and Liverpool Parkway, and Torrence Chapel Road and The Fresh Market driveway.
Ohio contractor Kwest Group started the improvements in April and is scheduled to finish them in May 2028.
Work includes adding three roundabouts, limiting left turns, adding sidewalks and resurfacing roads.
The project also aims to cut wait times at lights, former Deputy Town Manager Wayne Herron told The Charlotte Observer in July. On Torrence Chapel Road, for instance, wait times should drop from 11 minutes to 2 1/2 minutes, he said.
