Three Goodwill thrift stores in and around Charlotte sell for almost $13.3M
Goodwill has sold three retail centers, including one in north Charlotte, to a local investment firm for nearly $13.3 million. It’s the second time this year that the nonprofit has let go of some locations.

But all three stores will stay open. Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont sold three buildings in July to Metrolina Capital, a real estate investment firm based in Mooresville.
On July 16, Goodwill’s Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road site was sold for almost $4.2 million, according to Mecklenburg County records.
On the same day, the nonprofit also sold its Monroe and Rock Hill locations for nearly $4.3 million and under $4.8 million, respectively, according to Union and York counties’ records.
While the buildings have sold, the retail operations will continue, according to a statement from Goodwill.
The sales strengthen Goodwill’s financial position and allows the nonprofit to continue serving the community long-term, Goodwill stated.

In January, Goodwill sold its Sardis Woods location in Charlotte for almost $4.45 million. And it sold it Huntersville location for $4.2 million.
Those locations were also sold to Metrolina Capital. The firm has a portfolio in several Goodwill chapters in the U.S., especially in the southeast, according to its website.
The Southern Piedmont nonprofit opened in 1965 as an independent Goodwill affiliate agency. This Goodwill covers 18 counties throughout North and South Carolina.
And it operates over 36 retail stores across those counties. One of Goodwill’s recent openings was in the Steele Creek neighborhood at 4835 Shopton Road.
The revenue from the Goodwill retail stores goes towards career training courses and free family stability services for thousands of people each year in the Charlotte region.
