Heat wave prompts 20 calls for help at Usher-Chris Brown BofA Stadium concert

Friday’s hot weather prompted 20 heat-related calls to Bank of America Stadium during the Usher-Chris Brown concert and six similar calls elsewhere in the city, Medic reported.

And more sultry temps are expected during the R&B duo’s second show Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Heat advisories are in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday in Union County, where heat index values up to 107 are expected, and Rock Hill, where values could hit 108, NWS forecasters said.

“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” according to the advisory.

“Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles,” forecasters said. “Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.”

Rock Hill can expect a heat index of 102 on Saturday.

Charlotte reached a high of 98 on Friday and a heat index of 103, NWS meteorologist Chris Horne said Saturday. The heat index is what the outdoors feel like combining temperature and humidity.

“We’ll be right in that ballpark again today,” Horne said. “This afternoon will be comparable to what you had yesterday.”

Saturday should be sunny and hot with a high near 96 and heat index values near 105, according to the NWS forecast Saturday morning.

A high of 94 is forecast Sunday with head index values of 104, the forecast showed.

Charlotte has an 80% chance of showers late Sunday and early Monday.

Highs are expected to dip to 91 on Monday, 92 on Tuesday and Wednesday, 87 on Thursday and 88 on Friday.
