Here’s a look at Juneteenth events in the Charlotte region for 2026
As communities across the Charlotte area prepare to honor Juneteenth, a variety of festivals, parades and cultural celebrations are bringing people together to reflect on history, celebrate freedom and showcase Black culture throughout the month of June.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Juneteenth officially became a national holiday in 2021, but according to a previous article from The Charlotte Observer, the city of Charlotte has been celebrating since 1977.
Today, the holiday serves as a time to recognize the struggles and achievements of African Americans while promoting education, unity and cultural appreciation. Organizers across the Charlotte region hope these events provide opportunities for residents to learn about the significance of Juneteenth while celebrating the contributions Black Americans have made to their communities and the nation.

Many of this year’s celebrations will feature live entertainment, local vendors, art exhibits, educational programming and family-friendly activities.
