13,000 customers remain without power in Charlotte after storms, Duke Energy says
Thunderstorms knocked out power to more than 23,000 customers in Charlotte Friday afternoon, and 13,000 remained without power early Saturday, according to Duke Energy.

Eight thousand of the outages were in south Charlotte, most of them in neighborhoods between Fairview Road south to Pineville-Matthews Road, maps show.
Another 4,000 outages were east Charlotte, in Hidden Valley and Hickory Grove neighborhoods.
Duke Energy reported 45,000 customers in the state were without power at the height of the storm, more than half of them in the Charlotte area.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued just after 3 p.m. for Charlotte, including a threat of quarter-sized hail.
The storms were sparked by a cold front that brought heavily rain and the threat of flash flooding to the state, the National Weather Service says.
The U.S. Geological Survey reports the line of storms brought as much as an inch of rain to southeast Charlotte.
