Here are the nominees for The Observer’s high school athlete of the week. Nominees come from games played the week of Oct 2.

The poll will close at noon Friday.

Milena Aebischer, Ambassador Christian: A junior middle blocker committed to the University of San Diego, Aebischer hit .377 in two games. She had 18 kills, eight blocks and five aces.

Erik Anglemyer, Charlotte Latin cross-country: A senior, Anglemyer ran a time of 15 minutes, 44 seconds to finish third in the Red Invitational at the Great American Cross Country Festival at WakeMed Park, in Cary, NC, on Saturday. He led his team to a second place finish. His time is the second fastest boys’ 5K time in school history.

Yair Avila, Hunter Huss soccer: Avila had two hat tricks last week — three goals in a 3-1 win over Kings Mountain and three more in a 3-0 win over rival Ashbrook.

Jaylynn Carter, Cuthbertson volleyball: In two wins over Sun Valley (3-1) and Weddington (3-0) last week, Carter, an outside hitter, had six aces, 31 kills, five assists and 28 digs.

Quinn Cavanaugh, Providence Day cross-country: Cavanaugh finished fourth in the Blue race at the Great American Cross-Country Festival in Cary. His time of 15:42 was a new personal best by 26 seconds.

Nina Geathers, Providence Day volleyball: Geathers, a junior, had 19 kills against Charlotte Christian and 20 against Cannon School in games last week.

Berkley Hemingway, Myers Park field hockey: A senior captain committed to Sewanee, Hemingway had a goal in a 4-0 win over Ardrey Kell. Hemingway has six assists for the season and helps anchors the backline of a Mustangs defense that has seven shutouts.

Macey Howes, Parkwood volleyball: A junior libero, Howes had 15 digs and eight assists in a 3-0 win over Union Academy. She had 25 digs and two assists in a 3-0 win over Forest Hills. And in a 3-2 loss to West Stanly, Howes had 32 digs. For the season, she has 325 digs, 63 aces and 33 kills.

Jake Martinez, Union Academy: Martinez had four goals in a 6-1 win over North Stanly.

Ella Miller, Cuthbertson flag football: The sophomore QB led her team to wins over Sun Valley (46-7) and Mooresville (38-7). In two games, she was 35 for 62 passing for 398 yards with nine touchdowns. She also rushed 15 times for 89 yards and three scores.

Sanaa Mohammed, Charlotte Country Day volleyball: In games with Cannon School and Charlotte Latin last week, Mohammed posted 42 kills, 27 digs, an ace, two assists and two blocks.

Kingston Nickens, Cox Mill cross-country: Nickens finished fourth at the Wendy’s Invitational at McAlpine Park, competing in the open division. He ran a time of 16 minutes, 9.22 seconds, helping his team to a 15th place finish.

Joceyln Pradas, Hough flag football: Pradas, a junior wide receiver/defensive back, had 222 yards total offense against Garinger and South Mecklenburg last week. She had five catches, four interceptions, two touchdowns, a pass completion and a flag pull.

Edwin Ramirez, West Lincoln: Ramirez scored his 100th high school goal last week against Bessemer City and became just the third Lincoln County player ever to do so.

Kylie Richardson, Mallard Creek volleyball: A sophomore setter, Richardson had 11 aces, four kills, 34 assists and nine digs last week. For the season, Richardson has 38 aces, 32 kills, 10 blocks, 146 digs and 226 assists.

Charlie Thompson, Providence Day field hockey: Thompson, a senior midfielder, had the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Myers Park; was player of the game in a 1-0 win over Weddington; and Thompson had the game-winning assist in a 1-0 win over Forsyth Country Day. The Chargers are 11-4 through Sunday.

Mollie Wells, Ardrey Kell cross-country: Wells, a sophomore, ran a personal best time of 18 minutes, 44.7 seconds to finish 58th in the 5,000 meters at the COROS Race of Champions last week. Wells is currently ranked No. 37 in North Carolina.

Holland Wilkins, Charlotte Country Day field hockey: A senior midfielder, Wilkins had had two goals and two assists last week in matches against Chapel Hill and Charlotte Latin. A Harvard commit, Wilkins has 22 goals and 10 assists this season.
