That’s where he decided to sleep – despite having a home in Chester, South Carolina, officers were led to believe.
The odd discovery was made Friday along East Franklin Street in Monroe, and it coincided with a burglary at the adjacent 101 Smoke Shop, the Monroe police said in an Aug. 12 news release.
“As they continued investigating the break-in, one officer discovered (a man) inside of a dumpster behind the business,” police said. “The suspect … was covered in trash and pretending to be asleep.”

A duffle bag was also found in the dumpster, filled with “items that had been stolen from inside the smoke shop,” police said.
“Apparently, his plan was to sleep through the investigation and hope no one noticed him … Quite the trashy attempt at getting away,” police said.
The 39-year-old man was arrested and charged with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, and injury to personal property, police said.
