The Charlotte area, including Rock Hill, faces strong to severe storms with possibly damaging winds Friday, National Weather Service meteorologists said.

After a dry and sunny morning, thunderstorms could develop Friday afternoon and early evening, NWS forecasters said on social media site X. The mountains and the NC foothills also fall under the threat.
“A couple storms could become strong to severe, with damaging winds the primary threat,” according to the NWS.
Saturday, showers are likely to threaten outdoor plans in the region in the afternoon and evening, forecasters said.
The chance of showers rises from 60% during the day to 70% Saturday night, according to the NWS forecast.
“We’re having a weather system come through with rain and embedded thunder” on Saturday, NWS meteorologist Mike Rehnberg said.

A quarter to a half-inch of rain is possible Saturday afternoon and evening, he said.
The severe weather threat is not as great on Saturday as Friday, Rehberg said.
“It looks more showery in nature,” with showers more widespread across the region, he said about Saturday.
Charlotte should remain sunny with an expected high of 94 on Friday, according to the NWS forecast.
Showers are likely all day and night on Saturday, with a forecast high of 88.
Sunday should be partly sunny with a high of 89. Skies are forecast to remain sunny through at least Thursday, with a high of 90 on Monday, 87 on Tuesday, 88 on Wednesday and 90 on Thursday.
Similar highs are expected in Rock Hill.
