NASCAR great brings craft brews, racing culture to new Lake Norman bar & taproom

Beer lovers, rejoice. Retired NASCAR great Michael Waltrip has quietly added another Charlotte-area taproom featuring his unique craft brews.

The newest Michael Waltrip Signature Bar is open in Cornelius, highlighting the brand’s rich racing heritage and portfolio of premium beers.

The concept was launched earlier this year in partnership with Eleven Lakes Brewing and was integrated into an existing taproom at the Lake Norman-area brewery, according to a news release.

“I live close by, and to be able to share our beers with folks in this area, as well as fans coming to Charlotte, is tremendous,” Waltrip, a two-time Daytona 500 champion, said at the time. “I also appreciate the enthusiasm from the team at Eleven Lakes to welcome all our fans and ensure a great time is had by all.”

The Cornelius location is the fourth signature bar from Michael Waltrip Brewing Co., joining existing spots in Bristol, Tennessee; Clarksville, Tennessee; and Nashville.

It comes less than a year after the company shuttered its Concord taproom, then sold its taproom in Mooresville a few weeks later, CharlotteFive previously reported.

“While the decision to close and sell a restaurant is never easy, the Michael Waltrip Taproom is immensely proud of what was accomplished at this location — the memories made, the friendships built, and the moments shared,” the brewery said in a statement at the time.

At the new Cornelius pub, locals can expect limited-edition sips alongside a rotating lineup of specialty brews. MWB’s flagship beers — like Talladega Light lager, Bristol Sunshine Tangerine Ale and The Big One — will also be on tap.

NASCAR culture and mementos highlighting Waltrip’s racing career are on full display, including authentic items from his personal collection, the release said. Plus, the bar hosts race watch parties and themed events throughout the year.

So far, the brand hasn’t said if more Michael Waltrip Signature Bars are planned for the Charlotte metro. CharlotteFive reached out to the brewery for more information on Monday and was awaiting a response.
