The Ohio-based bank plans to install its name atop the One South office tower at 101 S. Tryon St. in uptown, Huntington said Monday. The building is in the heart of uptown at the corner of Trade and Tryon streets, adjacent to banking titan Bank of America.
The sign, with the bank’s logo and name, is expected to be installed by the end of the month, according to Huntington.
The skyscraper was built in 1974. The tower’s owner, Tourmaline Capital Partners, has spent more than $13 million on renovations.
The branding update is the latest in a series of skyline changes among major financial institutions in center city. Last year, Wells Fargo added 14-foot letters atop its 48-story building at 550 S. Tryon St., securing its name on Charlotte’s skyline as part of a $500 million investment in its local workspaces.
The sign and planned expansion reflect the importance of the Carolinas to Huntington’s long -term strategy, bank President Brant Standridge said in Monday’s statement.
Along with the new sign, Huntington National Bank has been aggressively expanding in Charlotte and the region, which includes plans to take over two more floors at One South on the 39th and 40th floors. The bank’s regional headquarters now occupy four floors in the 40-story tower to support its growing workforce in the Carolinas, Huntington said.
Huntington National Bank opened its Charlotte office in 2023 with about 40 employees on half of one floor at One South. The bank now has several hundred employees at the uptown office and other locations in Charlotte, according to Huntington.

Huntington’s signage will face South Tryon Street.
Rock Hill-based SouthWood Corp. fabricated and will install the 13-foot-4-inch tall and 88-foot-7-inch wide sign that says Huntington Bank, according to the bank.
The sign will feature programmable lighting in the bank’s signature green color, allowing it to change colors for community observances.
In recent years, Charlotte’s skyline has been changing with more names going on buildings, including Wells Fargo, Ally, Barings and Regions.
But some of the changes have been met with backlash.
Six years ago when Truist put its name and logo on top of its uptown headquarters at the former Hearst Tower, the building’s architect called it vandalism and a petition pleaded take it down.
Huntington has been rapidly accelerating across the region after announcing plans in 2024 to open 55 new branches across the Carolinas. So far, the bank has opened 14 branches across 10 regional markets.
Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, the 160-year-old bank has $284 billion in assets and operates more than 1,400 branches across 21 states. The merger with Cadence Bank this year moved Huntington into a top-10 U.S. commercial bank.
