Gunman fires multiple times into Cornelius home and kills someone, police say

A barrage of gunfire slammed into a Cornelius home Saturday afternoon, killing a 32-year-old man, according to police.

It happened around 2 p.m. at a single-family home in the 19000 block of Meridian Street, which was occupied by four adults and seven “juveniles” at the time, an arrest warrant reports.

Johnny Johnson was struck by gunfire and died after being taken to a hospital, police said.

“Less than four minutes after the initial 911 call, officers located and took the suspect into custody a short distance from the scene,” police said. “The preliminary investigation indicates this was an isolated incident, and the victim and suspect were known to one another.”

Johnquise Emmanuel Patterson, 21, has been charged with first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, 10 counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, and possession of a stolen Micro Draco AK-47 pistol, police said.

He is accused to attempting to kill John Oliver Johnson, who was at the home during the shooting, a warrant reports.

Court documents indicate the targeted home is also where Patterson’s was living.
