Gathering of four-wheelers ends with ATV rider killed, North Carolina police say
A large gathering for off-road vehicle enthusiasts turned deadly when two of the participants crashed into each other, according to police in Kings Mountain.

It happened around 6:33 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at a construction site on Sara Lee Access Road, just west of Interstate 85.
A 911 caller reported an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) and a truck crashed into each other near an industrial building that is under construction, police said.
“Upon arriving, first responding officers attempted to provide emergency medical aid. Due to the injuries sustained in the collision, the operator of the ATV was pronounced deceased at the scene,” police said in a news release.

“Witness interviews indicate that the operator of the ATV swerved to avoid a gravel patch in the private vehicular area and collided with a passenger truck. Both vehicles were part of a larger group of ATVs and trucks that had gathered to go ‘four-wheeling’ in the area.”
The ATV rider has been identified as 20-year-old Damieon Keith Brinson of Gastonia, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.
Kings Mountain is about a 30-mile drive west from uptown Charlotte.
