After pulling off a 28-25 upset win over Mallard Creek, Myers Park joins The Observer’s Sweet 16 poll this week.

The media company began The Sweet 16 in 1984 and awards the season-end winner with a large banner to hang in its gymnasium. The Sweet 16 ranks NCHSAA or NCISAA member schools from the following counties: Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Union.
This week, Myers Park rejoins the rankings. After an 0-2 start, losing to No. 2 Providence Day and No. 5 Weddington, the Mustangs have won two in a row, including Friday’s come-from-behind win over Mallard Creek.

Calvin Daniels, a senior defensive back, had an interception that he returned 31 yards to put his team ahead and Myers Park stopped Mallard Creek insides its 15 late in the game, forcing a shot field goal that Mallard Creek missed.
