Telecommunications company Comporium sold eight properties on Oct. 13 to Charlotte-based AH South Carolina, Inc., according to York County land records. That entity appears to be affiliated with nonprofit hospital system Atrium Health. Both share a mailing address.

A message left for Atrium Health wasn’t immediately returned.

The former Comporium site is bounded by Dave Lyle Boulevard, Trade Street and Willowbrook Avenue. There’s a Comporium building on it now, with parking. The combined site is 4 acres.

If Atrium intends to add medical services in Rock Hill, the site would join a growing list of company projects. In December, the company confirmed plans for a $450 million hospital in Fort Mill set to open in 2029. Last week, Atrium announced a $340 million commitment to expand behavioral healthcare across the Charlotte region. It includes a new hospital in north Charlotte.

Atrium invested $6.6 billion in major projects from 2021 to last year, according to the hospital group.

Healthcare sites have grown significantly in recent years throughout the Rock Hill region. Along with the coming Atrium hospital in Fort Mill, Rock Hill has a $300 million Novant Health medical campus planned at Palmetto Research Park. There’s a $300 million Medical University of South Carolina hospital and medical office building under construction in Indian Land.

CaroMont Health announced plans last month for a new Lake Wylie hospital by 2031. Piedmont Medical Network has added multiple freestanding emergency rooms in the region.
