Did Roy Cooper forget about the high prices before Trump? | Opinion

Roy Cooper’s web page provides a list: “Make Stuff Cost Less.” It appears to be what someone running for governor, not senator, might compile. Cooper apparently assumes that the other 99 Senators in Washington are just sitting around, twiddling their thumbs, waiting for him to come along. He forgets that while he was governor of North Carolina, the same four years that Joe Biden was president, we had higher gas prices and inflation than we have today.

Cooper says his opponent Michael Whatley is a liar for commercials generated by an outside entity (not part of the Whatley campaign). That does not make Whatley a liar, but it does cause concern about Cooper’s integrity. Can we trust him?

Vice President JD Vance is saying that former president Richard Nixon was treated unfairly before he was forced to resign and get a pardon from Gerald Ford, his former VP. Vance said that Nixon would not have been impeached by today’s standards, but Vance failed to highlight that our moral compass has been degraded and has malfunctioned since then.

“Gas prices are brutal. Giving Dems Congress would be worse” misses so much. Gas prices vs “Socialists” isn’t all there is. The Affordable Care Act has enabled roughly 40 million Americans to obtain coverage through its Medicaid expansion and subsidized marketplace programs, with millions receiving coverage that would otherwise have been unaffordable or unavailable to them.

There’s strong evidence that affordability is still a genuine barrier. The cure is Canadian-style Medicare for all, costing half per person what we pay, covering everyone, and with longer life expectancy.

Misogyny does not always announce itself. Sometimes, it hides behind a joke, a beauty standard, a social media trend, or something dismissed as “just a preference.” That is exactly why recognizing it matters.

Through my involvement with HerPathUSA, I have been researching how misogyny evolves across generations. My project explores how expectations once openly imposed on women can become so normalized that younger generations inherit them without questioning where they came from.

As a young woman growing up in North Carolina, I have also seen how gender bias can appear in everyday interactions, especially when girls are expected to speak, behave, or lead differently simply because they are women.

Feminism cannot only confront the sexism that is easy to identify. We also have to question the biases we have become comfortable enough to overlook.

Thank you for running NC Rep. Phil Rubin’s opinion piece on the State Auditor’s office invoking the wishes of the Republican Party. We are not surprised by this, but how does Auditor Dave Boliek’s blatant partisanship square with the state law requiring execution of the office “without favor or partiality”?
