Traffic cone used as weapon in random attacks on 2 women in Dilworth, CMPD says
Two women were attacked in Dilworth by a stranger swinging a traffic cone, and a third woman says the man threatened to beat her for saying “hello” to him, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.

The assaults happened Sunday, Sept. 27, as the two women stood near gas pumps at a Circle K on East Boulevard, according to an affidavit.
One woman reports she saw a man grab a traffic cone at the front of the store, then he hit her in the head with it, officials say.
The second woman was also struck in the head, and the blow was powerful enough to knock her off balance, police say. “She stated she fell backwards and struck her head on a pole,” the affidavit says.
The man then fled and he “ran strangely,” the victims said.
Surveillance video confirmed the attacks were unprovided, and gave detectives an image of the suspect.
He was later identified 32-year-old Evin Sims of Matthews, and arrested on two misdemeanor counts of assault on a female, court records show.

Sims is also accused of threatening to beat a third woman during a separate incident Sunday in the 600 block of Queens Road, an affidavit says. The charge in that case is communicating threats, officials say.
“The victim stated she was walking her dog when she said ‘hello’ to a … male that she was walking past,” court records say.
“She stated the suspect responded with: ‘I am going to beat you. I am going to punch you. I am going to beat your prissy (butt).’ The victim stated she then crossed to the other side of the street.”
The woman took a photo of the man from a distance, and detectives recognized him as the man suspected of assaulting two women with a traffic cone, police said.
