Armed homeowner held intruder prisoner until deputies arrived, NC sheriff says
A burglary in rural North Carolina came to an abrupt end when the homeowner caught the intruder “in the act” and took him prisoner, according to investigators.

It happened around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday near in Colerain, and the homeowner was armed, officials say.
“The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Sally Freeman Rd. … in reference to a break-in in progress,” the sheriff’s office said in a Sept 15 news release.
“The owner had the suspect at gunpoint.”
Carlton Moore, 44, was arrested at the scene, officials said. Court records report he lives about 4 miles north of the home.

“While investigating this home break-in, deputies developed Moore as the suspect who broke into another home in the 200 block of Sally Freeman Road last week,” the sheriff’s office said.
“After deputies took Moore into custody, a search of his residence revealed items stolen from the home broken into last week on Sally Freeman Road.”
Moore has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of larceny after breaking and entering and two counts of possession of stolen goods.

Colerain is about a 140-mile drive northeast from downtown Raleigh.
