White Duck Taco Shop will soon make itself at home in a new pond — in South End Charlotte.

The taco restaurant plans to open a second location at 3000 S. Tryon St., inside Lenny Boy Brewing Co., according to social media posts.

An official opening date wasn’t made public. However, owner Jason Haas told CharlotteFive that the space should be ready to welcome customers by mid-September with final inspections scheduled sometime next week.

“It is a lot of work to try to put two … concepts together, and management and all of those things — but we just felt like it was worth (it),” Haas said of partnering with Lenny Boy. “The synergy behind both of our brands and what we offer seem to really match well together.”

A signage permit issued in early August show plans to affix “a sign for White Duck Taco” to the front of the brewery’s building, according to city records.

The collaboration will allow the respective brands to focus on what they do best: White Duck will act as the on-site caterer, serving up budget-friendly tacos, while Lenny Boy handles all-things craft beer and beverages.

We feel like it’s a win-win for both of us,” Haas told CharlotteFive. “We’re two North Carolina brands I think pair well together, and we look forward to being together in that space.”

The Asheville-based restaurant is known for its globally-inspired taco creations, such as the Korean beef bulgogi taco, the tikka chicken masala taco and the bahn mi tofu taco. Classic fish and crispy chicken tacos are also on the menu, along with sides of chips and salsa, beer, margaritas and a few desserts.

Haas said the new South End location will have unique offerings like brunch tacos on weekends, plus weekly specials.

“Once our kitchen manager perfects (the brunch menu) … then we’ll” roll it out in Mathews, he said.

White Duck opened its first Charlotte location in Belmont in 2019, followed by a restaurant in downtown Matthews just two years later, CharlotteFive previously reported.

The Belmont spot has since closed, and an overnight fire nearly destroyed the Matthews restaurant in 2023. But the team rebuilt, welcoming customers back several months later.

Haas is already looking ahead and said he hopes to open at least six White Duck restaurants in the Charlotte market. The brand currently has five North Carolina locations, as well as spots in South Carolina and Tennessee.
