Body recovered from Lake Wylie in the fourth York County water death this summer

A person who jumped from a boat Monday evening in Lake Wylie has been found dead by divers, officials said.

Emergency crews found the person’s body around 8:40 p.m., about an hour after officials sent teams to the area near the Ebenezer Park boat landing on the lake’s southern shore close to Rock Hill, the York County Sheriff’s Office said.

The person’s identity and cause of death has not yet been released.

An investigation into the death remains ongoing by the York County Coroner and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.

The Labor Day fatality on Lake Wylie is the fourth death this summer. A Fort Mill man died July 26 off a sandbar near Rock Hill’s Bowater Park. On May 28, a 16-year-old Charlotte boy died at the lake near Little Allison Creek after jumping from a boat, officials said. On May 19, York County divers found the body of a 25-year-old from Charlotte after he had jumped from a boat while swimming the day before, deputies said.
