The rankings are sponsored by The Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer of Raleigh. The media companies also sponsor a ranking of the top 25 teams in the state, regardless of class, called The Super 25. Finally, The Observer hosts The Sweet 16 ranking for its regional teams that began in 1984.
This week, two new teams sit atop the various N.C. polls: In 6A, Greenville’s Rose High jumped three spots to No. 1 after former No. 1 TC Roberson lost, 19-16, at 5A South Point on Friday. South Point is No. 3 in the 5A poll this week, up three spots.
