Driver dies at hospital days after head-on crash on a Charlotte road, police say

A driver died at a hospital days after he was injured in a head-on wreck in east Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Friday.

Roosevelt Davis III, 55, was making a U turn in a Kia Forte compact sedan when he collided with the 23-year-old driver of a Kia Soul subcompact SUV, police said.

The cars collided in the 6100 block of Hickory Grove Road just after 9:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, according to a CMPD news release. That’s near the intersection with East W.T. Harris Boulevard.

The drivers were hospitalized with what CMPD officers described at the time as non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not said what changed in Davis’ condition or why he died. Davis lived in Charlotte, public records show.
