CMPD investigating hit-and-run crash that left person dead in southeast Charlotte

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating the death of a pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run Wednesday night in southeast Charlotte, an alert from the department said.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Nations Crossing and Woodlawn Road where the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

Witnesses at the scene told police arriving at 8:37 p.m. that a vehicle fled after hitting the pedestrian, CMPD said. Officers investigated another crash shortly after near the intersection of Woodlawn Road and Old Pineville Road involving a single vehicle.

The second crash site was only a short distance away from the hit-and-run site. Investigators are working on determining the connection between the two crashes, CMPD said.

Police have not identified the victim or a suspect.
