Here are the nominees for The Observer’s high school athlete of the week. Nominees come from games played from Aug. 29.

Moorea Atkins, Ardrey Kell volleyball: The 5-10 senior outside hitter led her team to two wins last week, totaling 31 kills, 28 digs and 3 aces. For the season, Atkins has helped Ardrey Kell to a 7-4 start with a .258 hitting percentage, 112 kills, 12 aces and 74 digs.
Sloan Chesnutt, Myers Park field hockey: The senior forward led the Mustangs to a pair of 2-1 wins over Providence Day and Charlotte Latin last week. She had 2 goals an an assist in those games.
Siena DiThomas, Mooresville volleyball: the senior setter gave her 1,000th career assists in a 3-0 win over Hough last week. In two matches and eight sets played, DiThomas had 71 assists, 23 digs, 3 kills and a block.
Reese Gluck, Charlotte Latin tennis: An eighth grader on varsity, Reese went 3-1 at the number 1 singles spot last weekend, helping Latin reach the finals of the 2026 FTA tournament.
Christian Grzelak, Metrolina Christian soccer: The junior centerback had one assist and one goal in a 4-1 win over Lee Park Prep on Aug. 25. He had a goal in a 2-2 draw with Grace Academy on Aug. 27.
Rowe Hopkins, Providence boys’ cross-country: Hopkins finished fourth at the Carolina Kickoff Invitational at Metrolina Christian. Providence finished second in the boys’ championship division.
Ashten Humphries, Corvian Community volleyball: The junior outside hitter had 11 kills, 11 digs, 5 receptions and 3 aces against Langtree Charter on Aug. 25. Against Community School of Davidson on Aug. 26, she had 9 kills, 10 digs, 3 aces and a block.
Leena Lohavichan, Providence Day field hockey: Lohavichan had 4 goals and 3 assists in games against Ballantyne Ridge, St. Mary’s and Durham Academy last week. Providence Day (5-2) won two of the three games.
Christopher Marin, Concord boys’ soccer: Marin, a sophomore, had 2 goals and an assist in 3-1 win over rival AL Brown.
Chris O’Connor, Christ The King boys’ cross-country: O’Connor finished 14th overall at the Carolinas Kickoff ff in a time of 16:21.

Claire Page, Providence girls’ cross-country: Page finished fifth at the Carolinas Kickoff Invitational, helping her team to a runner-up finish.
Edwin Ramirez, West Lincoln soccer: In a 5-1 win over Maiden on Aug. 24, Ramirez had 3 goals and 25 steals. On Aug. 26, he had 2 goals, 2 assists and 35 steals in a 4-2 win over Cherryville.
Ann Randolph Bryan, Covenant Day girls’ soccer: The Hamilton (NY) College commit, a two-time all-state player, had 2 goals and 4 assists in four games last week, helping her team to 4 wins.
Shea Roche, Christ The King girls’ cross-country: Roche finished third overall at the Carolinas Kick Off meet in a time of 18 minutes, 10 seconds. Her team finished fourth overall.
Amy Wang, Charlotte Country Day tennis: Wang, a 5-5 freshman, had a singles win against Weddington and was 3-0 in doubles last week.
Kaylee Ward, West Lincoln volleyball: Ward recorded her 1,000th career dig in Thursday’s match with Shelby.
Kalli Waugh, South Iredell volleyball: In matches last week, Waugh had 25 kills and 12 digs, leading her team to wins over Hough and Mallard Creek. This season, Waugh had 55 kills, 27 digs, and is averaging at a 1.58 pass rate.
Holland Wilkins, Charlotte Country Day field hockey: Wilkins, a senior, had 6 goals and 5 assists in 3 games. She is committed to Harvard.
