A South Carolina man accused of threatening to kill President Donald Trump on the social media platform X has been indicted in federal court, records show.

A grand jury indicted John Alexander Bellue this week on one count of threatening the president and one count of using interstate communications to send his threat, according to court records filed in the Rock Hill division of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina.

According to court documents, Bellue on Sept. 7, 2025, posted: “@realDonaldTrump you have the right to remain silent, I’m gonna kill you in the most brutal way possible.”

That day, Trump attended the U.S. Open men’s tennis championship in New York City and was greeted with a mix of boos, several news outlets reported.

Prison records show that Bellue has not been convicted of crimes in South Carolina or North Carolina.
