One dead in shooting at apartments on South Tryon Street near I-485, CMPD says

A shooting reported late Thursday in a southwest Charlotte apartment community is being investigated as a homicide, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

It happened just before 10 p.m. on Yager Creek Drive in the Coffey Creek apartments, near the intersection of South Tryon Street and Interstate 485.

“MEDIC transported the victim to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Shortly after, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital,” CMPD said.

The identity of the person has not been released.

The shooting is one of two homicides reported in Charlotte Thursday evening. The other was happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 3100 block of Milton Road in northeast Charlotte. The victim was found dead in a parking lot, police said.
