That’s because two North Carolina destinations have been crowned top places to spend the night. Here are highlights from the nationwide rankings published Aug. 12:

But the praise for the state’s accommodations didn’t end there. Here’s where other North Carolina destinations landed on the top bed and breakfast list from USA Today’s 10Best:

“Whether you’re planning a vacation, honeymoon, or business trip, choosing your hotel is about so much more than just a place to sleep,” 10Best wrote in its report. “The best hotels and resorts offer a variety of amenities, activities, and dining options to ensure you have a stellar experience.”

To determine the best places to stay, 10Best said travel experts picked top-notch hotels and resorts across the country. Editors narrowed down the choices before readers could spend a month voting on the places they loved the most.

On the resulting list of readers’ choice award winners, The Graylyn Estate in Winston-Salem reigned supreme for boutique hotels. In the century-old estate’s Manor House, rooms reflect the “globe-trotting Gray family, from the Persian Card Room to the whimsical Atlantis Room,” the property wrote on its website.

“Butlers are available around the clock to ensure that guest needs are always attended to,” 10Best wrote in its report. “Winston-Salem’s own version of ‘Downton Abbey’ treats visitors like royalty, while homemade butterscotch cookies and a fishing pond count among the unique pleasures at this 55-acre historic property.”

Also ranking No. 1 in its category was the C.W. Worth House in Wilmington. The location topped the bed and breakfast list for the second year in a row, with 10Best again praising its cozy atmosphere.

“Guests of C.W. Worth House enjoy a farm-to-table breakfast each morning, and the property is close enough to downtown and the Wilmington Riverwalk that you can walk to many restaurants and attractions,” 10Best wrote.

Another repeat winner on the list was The Historic Magnolia House in Greensboro, which took the No. 8 spot. Visitors can stay in rooms that are inspired by its famous guests, which have included musicians Ray Charles and Tina Turner. The bed and breakfast said it’s one of only a few sites from the “The Negro Motorist Green Book” — a guide for Black travelers during segregation — still open in North Carolina today.

Rounding out the list of North Carolina winners was Morehead Manor Bed and Breakfast in Durham at No. 10. The property offers peace in a “lively area, filled with universities and tech companies as well as restaurants, breweries, wineries, art galleries, shops, and parks,” 10Best wrote.

The results come as North Carolina hotels have made their mark this year. Travel + Leisure magazine named four mountain destinations among the best Southern resorts. And eight properties across the state landed on a Forbes list of the world’s most luxurious places to stay, The News & Observer previously reported.

In the latest rankings from 10Best, North Carolina destinations missed out on other lists of fan-favorite hotels. For example, no places in the state ranked among the best all-inclusive resorts or waterfront properties in the United States.

In the past, 10Best has told The N&O it doesn’t share the number of people who vote in its contests.
