Unusual uptown crime scene includes homicide, robbery and a car crash, CMPD says
What began as a robbery investigation turned into a complex homicide case when officers arrived to find a car crash with one person fatally shot, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The “robbery from a person” was reported around 1 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of East 5th and N. McDowell streets, CMPD said in an Aug. 2 news release.
“Upon arrival, officers discovered a crash involving two vehicles. Four victims were transported to local hospitals, one with life-threatening injuries, three with non-life-threatening injuries,” CMPD said. “The victim with life-threatening injuries had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.”

Details of what led up to the shooting have not been released.
However, investigators say all “persons of interest” have been identified by police and no one is being sought.
