August is Pride Month in Charlotte. Here’s where to celebrate

June may be officially recognized as Pride Month nationally, but Charlotte keeps the party going all summer long.

From thought-provoking conversations about LGBTQ+ history to the highly-anticpated Charlotte Pride weekend packed with parades, live music and community gatherings, there are plenty of ways to show up and celebrate Pride in the Queen City.

Here are some Pride events happening in Charlotte in August:

Location: Charlotte Museum of History, 3500 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215

When: Tuesday, Aug. 4, 6-7:30 p.m.

Cost: Pay what you can. (Organizers suggest donating $10.)

The Pride is a Protest: Then and Now community conversation explores the history of the Pride movement and its ongoing role in civic engagement through a historical presentation, panel discussion and guided dialogue. Attendees will also learn about LGBTQ+ history in Charlotte and discover ways to stay involved in their communities.

Location: Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1900 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC 28205

When: Sunday, Aug. 9, 4-5 p.m.

Cost: Free

This annual service brings together affirming faith communities from across the Charlotte region to celebrate inclusion and support for LGBTQ+ people. The event welcomes people of all faiths and backgrounds.

Location: First Ward Park, 301 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28202

When: Saturday, Aug. 15

Cost: Free

The Charlotte Pride Festival will feature live music, including a performance by Lauren Sanderson, along with hundreds of vendors, community organizations, food trucks and local businesses. Family-friendly activities and entertainment take place throughout the day.

Location: Blackbox Theatre, 421 E Sugar Creek Rd, Charlotte, NC 28213

When: Saturday, Aug. 15, 9:30 p.m.-2 a.m.

Cost: $39.19-$65.87

Step into an immersive, fantasy-inspired Pride celebration filled with music, dancing and dazzling visuals. Guests can enjoy cocktails, connect with the LGBTQ+ community and celebrate in an enchanted garden setting.

Location: North Tryon Street in uptown

When: Sunday, Aug. 16, 1-4 p.m.

Cost: Free

Charlotte’s annual Pride Parade marches through uptown to celebrate more than 50 years of LGBTQ+ liberation. The event draws thousands of spectators to cheer on colorful floats, community groups and local organizations.
