Teen driver arrested months after Charlotte fatal hit-and-run crash, police say
A teenager was arrested Friday in a November fatal hit-and-run crash on Remount Road in Charlotte, police said.

Evelin Suseli Mejia Alvarez, a 19-year-old passenger in the stolen car, was pronounced dead by Medic at the scene of the Nov. 4 crash in the 1200 block, police said. A male teen passenger was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, officers said.
The driver of the 2014 Kia Rio ran away “without rendering aid or calling 911,” according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.
Alvarez died when the driver ran off the road and hit a utility pole around 4:15 a.m., police said.

“Speed and reckless driving” contributed to the crash, police said.
On Wednesday, July 29, police obtained a secure custody order charging the driver with second-degree murder, felony hit and run, reckless driving and no operator’s license.
