Damaging winds and large hail possible Tuesday in Charlotte area, forecasters say
A turbulent cold front is headed to the Charlotte region and could result in violent storms Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Timing continues to shift later in the day, with the latest forecast calling for “repeated rounds” of rain between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., forecasters say.
Wind gusts of more than 22 mph and “hail of quarter size or larger” are possible, the NWS says.
“Any thunderstorms developing ahead of a cold front today and this evening will pose a risk of severe weather, though confidence remains low on how much of the area will see thunderstorms develop,” forecasters reported early Tuesday.

“Large hail perhaps approaching 2 (inches) in diameter are certainly on the table this afternoon. … A tornado cannot be ruled out.”
The storms are the result of cold air colliding with temperatures in the mid 90s, and a heat index of 106 degrees, forecasters say.
Charlotte is expected to see a high of 94 degrees Tuesday, with a low of 72 tonight.
