Suspect arrested in shooting that killed former Garinger High athlete, CMPD says
A 24-year-old Charlotte man has been named the suspect in a shooting that killed a former Garinger High basketball player, and put a second person in the hospital, according to investigators.

Marquaris DeMontez Timmons was arrested July 24 and has been charged with: murder; attempted murder; assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflicting serious injury, and shooting into an occupied vehicle, CMPD said.
Details of a motive have not been released.
Cameron Elijah Gilliard-Robinson, 20, was fatally shot around 8 p.m. Friday, July 10, in the 100 block of 30th Street, police said. He died at the scene.
A second gunshot victim found with him was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, officials say.

Gilliard-Robinson had been on the Garinger High varsity basketball team in the 22-23 season, according to Garinger Athletic Zone.
The 100 block of 30th Street intersects North Tryon Street and is a largely commercial, maps show.
