Charlotte Water customers were urged to limit water use Saturday after a water main break flooded a busy road Friday.

Crews closed Queens Road West between the 1000 and 1100 blocks to repair the main.
“In an abundance of caution, CLTWater is asking all customers to further conserve water and refrain from irrigation following a water main break on Queens Rd.,” department officials posted on social media site X around midnight.
“Water remains safe to use,” officials said. “Residents in S. Charlotte may notice slight water pressure changes.”
Around 8 p.m. Friday, Charlotte Water reported that crews “isolated the water main and were assessing the broken pipe to develop a repair plan.”

Repairs were scheduled to take six to eight hours, according to the department, which urged drivers to avoid the area.
Due to the drought, Charlotte has already been under mandatory water restrictions since May 15. Customers may water outdoors only on their assigned days between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
As of June 26, 1,045 violations were reported to the city and 1,220 total violations confirmed, according to figures posted by the city online.
