Ballantyne Ridge names new boys’ basketball coach after previous one suspended
Chris Goodrum, a longtime local youth sports advocate, has been named head boys’ basketball coach at Ballantyne Ridge.

He was previously an assistant coach at the nearly three-year-old school.
Goodrum replaces Christopher Caputi, who was suspended with pay by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools on April 23. CMS did not give a reason for the suspension, only providing Caputi’s employee record after a request from The Observer.
Goodrum has been involved with Charlotte youth travel basketball for years and is currently Chief Operating Officer for Pro Skills Basketball, one of the state’s largest youth organizations. PSB was formerly home of Stephen Curry’s Under Armour-sponsored Team Curry teams.
Caputi worked at CMS from 2016-18 and was rehired in August 2023. He coached at Ballantyne Ridge for two seasons, going 2-23 in 2024-25 and 10-16 last season.
He graduated from Mercy (NY) College in 2012, and was assistant coach at Queen’s University from 2014-16.

After that, Caputi became an assistant under Mike Craft at Ardrey Kell High, and later became head coach at North Forysth and Cuthbertson High in Union County.
Caputi worked at Cuthbertson from 2019 to 2023, when he resigned, Union County School officials told The Observer.
Caputi was 3-21 at North Forsyth and 22-41 in three seasons at Cuthbertson, according to MaxPreps.
