{"id":378,"date":"2026-05-19T09:33:53","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T09:33:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/charlotterelocationguide.com\/?p=378"},"modified":"2026-05-19T09:33:53","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T09:33:53","slug":"arkansas-man-dies-in-waters-off-ncs-outer-banks-national-park-service-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/charlotterelocationguide.com\/?p=378","title":{"rendered":"Arkansas man dies in waters off NC\u2019s Outer Banks, National Park Service says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Arkansas man perished in a \u201cwater-related\u201d incident while visiting North Carolina\u2019s Outer Banks, according to the National Park Service.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/charlotterelocationguide.com\/?p=376\">Senate confirms NC\u2019s Dan Bishop, Ellis Boyle for US attorney positions<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Robert Sloan Scroggin, 41, died on the afternoon of May 13, and specifics of the mishap have not been released.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA water-related fatality occurred off a beach in front of the village of Avon,\u201d the NPS said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCape Hatteras National Seashore rangers and the Hatteras Island Rescue Squad provided immediate assistance and Dare County Emergency Medical Services provided additional medical care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Avon is a tourist destination bordered by the Pamlico Sound on the west and Atlantic Ocean on the east.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/charlotterelocationguide.com\/?p=375\">Discount furniture chain coming to Charlotte, already planning 3 more stores here<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scroggin was visiting from Fayetteville, Arkansas, and hometown <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DYThpq1FLNH\/\" rel=\"Follow\" target=\"_blank\">coverage of his death<\/a> noted Sloan Scroggin was a politician, educator and businessman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am saddened to learn of the passing of former Council Member Sloan Scroggin,\u201d Fayetteville Mayor Molly Rawn wrote in a May 13 social media post. \u201cSloan cared deeply about Fayetteville and dedicated years of service to our community through the Planning Commission, City Council, and his work helping people build homes and lives here in our city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkansasonline.com\/news\/2026\/may\/14\/former-fayetteville-city-council-planning\/\" rel=\"Follow\" target=\"_blank\">Scroggin was a represented of Ward 3<\/a> on the council from 2018 to 2022 and service as a <a href=\"https:\/\/math.uark.edu\/directory\/index\/uid\/rscroggi\/name\/Robert+Sloan+Scroggin\/\" rel=\"Follow\" target=\"_blank\">mathematics instructor<\/a> at the University of Arkansas, according to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
