A North Carolina woman tried using a garden hoe to rob a pizzeria during the supper rush, and it didn\u2019t end well, according to investigators.<\/p>\n

The incident counts as an \u201cattempted robbery,\u201d police say, because the staff and patrons at Foxhole Pizza and Subs refused to cooperate.<\/p>\n

It happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 13, on East Main Street in Glen Alpine, and investigators say Tanya Ward, 51, tried twice within an hour to get money from the restaurant.<\/p>\n

The first time, she came unarmed, \u201cdemanded money,\u201d and the restaurant owner \u201crefused and asked her to leave,\u201d an affidavit reports.<\/p>\n

After the owner left the restaurant, she returned with a \u201clarge garden hoe,\u201d threatened the manager, and tried to get money from the cash register, police say.<\/p>\n

\u201cPatrons and (the) manager of the establishment fought her off and the restaurant employees attempted to restrain the defendant,\u201d police say.<\/p>\n

Ward fled to the parking lot and drove away in a car, police say. She was arrested later that day and charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, officials say. Ward is described as \u201chomeless\u201d in court documents.<\/p>\n

Glen Alpine is near Morganton, about an 80-mile drive northwest from uptown Charlotte.<\/p>\n
