Concord Mills was awarded over $600,000 in a tenant dispute with a high-end footwear retailer<\/a> just 11 days before the store\u2019s parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.<\/p>\n

Mall at Concord Mills<\/a> Limited Partnership, which is affiliated with the Concord mall\u2019s owner and operator Simon based in Indianapolis, was awarded $606,200, plus over $90,000 in attorney fees, from A Sneaker City Charlotte<\/a> on June 29 in Cabarrus County Superior Court.<\/p>\n

The Albany, N.Y.-based retailer sells, buys and trades sneakers and streetwear. The complaint, filed in March, alleged Sneaker City breached its lease for past rent and fee balance of $105,826 and present value of future rents of over $500,373, court documents show.<\/p>\n

Other defendants listed in the case are A Sneaker City Albany Inc., A Sneaker City Queens Inc., and A Sneaker City Soho Inc.<\/p>\n

A Sneaker City signed the lease for a 2,253-square-foot space in 2022. The lease agreement was extended in 2025 through July 2028, according to court documents. The company\u2019s annual rent was over $139,000, documents show.<\/p>\n

The judge ruled Sneaker City was in default after it failed to respond to the mall\u2019s claims. The court judgment accounts for both past-due rent and future rent owed under the lease.<\/p>\n

Simon and the mall\u2019s attorney declined requests for comment on Monday. A Sneaker City officials also did not respond to a request for comment on Monday.<\/p>\n

Charlotte Business Journal<\/a> first reported about the case and decision.<\/p>\n

Shortly after the judgment on July 10, the parent company behind the sneaker chain, A Sneaker City Albany Inc., had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the Northern District of New York.<\/p>\n

Court filings show the company\u2019s financial strain stems largely from lease-guarantee exposure on defunct sister stores across the country.<\/p>\n

The company, which lists sole shareholder Brandon Gutierrez, reported assets between $0 and $50,000 against liabilities ranging from $1 million to $10 million.<\/p>\n

The filing highlights a decline in revenue to $162,000 so far this year compared to $479,000 in 2025 and $392,000 in 2024.<\/p>\n

The bankruptcy case reveals significant claims from Concord Mills of $606,200, as well as other mall landlords including Roosevelt Field in New York, Woodfield Mall in Illinois, and the Mall of Georgia.<\/p>\n

In a separate case, Concord Mills<\/a> won its case on July 8 to evict Go Green CBD<\/a> in Cabarrus County District Court Clerk of Superior Court small claims division.<\/p>\n

Mall at Concord Mills Limited Partnership claimed the Go Green CBD breached its lease, owing $104,770 in back rent and other charges as of June 1. The Aventura, Florida-based retailer, which sells CBD and THC products, has 10 days to appeal the decision, according to court documents.<\/p>\n

Concord Mills at 8111 Concord Mills Blvd. has 182 stores and restaurants. Simon also owns SouthPark mall and Charlotte Premium Outlets.<\/p>\n
