A man armed with a knife and \u201ccovered in blood\u201d<\/a> was killed in a confrontation with police, according to investigators in North Carolina.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday, and officers later discovered a fatally stabbed woman was also in the home, High Point police said in a May 18 news release.<\/p>\n

The incident began as a domestic dispute in the Jamesford Meadows subdivision, police said said.<\/p>\n

\u201cInitial information relayed to dispatchers reported that there was an active assault in progress involving a knife. This information was provided to a neighbor by two juveniles who fled from the home during the assault,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOfficers arrived … knocked on the front door, but received no response from inside. Two additional officers went to the rear of the residence and observed signs of a violent assault. At that time, the two officers at the front door forced entry into the home and encountered an adult male covered in blood and armed with a knife. Officers gave multiple commands to the male, which he ignored before advancing toward officers, still armed with the knife.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officers fired their guns, and he died at the scene, officials said.<\/p>\n

A search located a woman with life-threatening stab wounds and \u201cshe was pronounced deceased a short time later,\u201d officials said.<\/p>\n

Her death is being investigated as a homicide.<\/p>\n

Identities of the man and woman have not been released.<\/p>\n

Four officers with the department have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting by the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, officials said.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo officers were physically injured during the incident,\u201d officials said.<\/p>\n
