The North Carolina Department of Transportation<\/a> is continuing a $6.8 million project to improve two crash-prone intersections<\/a> in northwest Charlotte with several road closures planned in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

The state is working to build two single-lane roundabouts at Oakdale\/Miranda\/Simpson roads and sunset\/Oakdale\/Miranda roads. Contract crews will close Miranda Road between Oakdale and Beatties Ford roads on July 13. The closure is expected to be in place for up to 42 days, according to the state.<\/p>\n

Traffic will be detoured along Beatties Ford Road, Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road and Oakdale Road before returning to Miranda Road.<\/p>\n

Roundabouts create more efficient travel conditions for drivers at slower speeds, while reducing the frequency and severity of crashes, state officials<\/a> said.<\/p>\n

The closures will allow contract crews to complete concrete and asphalt work, stormwater improvements and to install permanent pavement markings and markers.<\/p>\n

A set of weekend closures is also expected at Oakdale and Sunset Roads as part of this work. The first closure will last from 8 p.m. on Friday, July 17, until 6 a.m. on Monday, July 20. Drivers will be detoured along Beatties Ford Road, Peachtree Road, Oakdale Road, N.C. 16\/Brookshire Boulevard and Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road back to Oakdale Road.<\/p>\n

The closures are expected to continue for two more consecutive weeks, weather permitting, officials said.<\/p>\n

The roundabouts should open by summer 2027, according to the state. Landscaping and adding vegetation will continue into 2028, officials said.<\/p>\n
