Educators react to pay raises<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Barrette Outdoor Living Inc. operates a manufacturing site in Salisbury, which is about 45 miles north of Charlotte. It produces outdoor products.<\/p>\n<p>The manufacturer informed employees and the state on Wednesday that it would be laying off 63 workers, effectively immediately, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commerce.nc.gov\/data-tools-reports\/labor-market-data-tools\/workforce-warn-reports\/report-workforce-warn-summary-list-2026\" rel=\"Follow\" target=\"_blank\">Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act<\/a> (WARN) report filed on July 1. Such notices are required by federal law during mass layoffs. The report was made available on July 2.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRevenue decline and economic downturn\u201d were two of the reasons for the immediate layoff, the manufacturer said the in the report.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear why workers or the state weren\u2019t given more notice of the layoffs. Barrette did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>But the manufacturer has undergone several rebranding and acquisitions in the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/charlotterelocationguide.com\/?p=2647\">\u2018It took 50 years.\u2019 Tuscarora tribe recognition takes a step forward in NC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And layoffs.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Barrette laid off 306 people from its site in New York and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/atlantic\/2025\/04\/major-us-fence-maker-laying-off-120-from-its-only-nj-factory.html\" rel=\"Follow\" target=\"_blank\">New Jersey<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Seven months ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/barrette-outdoor-living\/about\/\" rel=\"Follow\" target=\"_blank\">Barrette posted on LinkedIn<\/a> that the \u201cBarrette Outdoor Living\u201d brand was being sunsetted after its acquisition by Oldcastle APG, another outdoor product manufacturer.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear if this rebranding was part of the reason for the layoffs.<\/p>\n<p>Barrette is based in Ohio and began operating in 1975.<\/p>\n<p>The manufacturer was acquired by Oldcastle APG in 2021. At the time, Barrette had 10 manufacturing facilities and four distribution sites across in the U.S. and Canada, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.barretteoutdoorliving.com\/news\/oldcastle-apg-acquires-barrette-outdoor-living\" rel=\"Follow\" target=\"_blank\">news release from Oldcastle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Oldcastle has been on its own acquisition run.
